What a BIN tells you

The first 6 to 8 digits of every payment card make up its BIN (Bank Identification Number), also known as the IIN (Issuer Identification Number). These digits are public routing information — they tell payment systems which network and bank should handle the transaction. From a BIN you can determine:

• Card network — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and more.
• Card type — credit, debit or prepaid.
• Issuing bank — the institution that issued the card.
• Country — where the card was issued.

BIN vs IIN vs PAN

The PAN (Primary Account Number) is the full card number, 12-19 digits. The BIN/IIN is just its leading 6-8 digits. This tool only needs the BIN — it never asks for, stores, or transmits a full card number.

Where the data comes from & privacy

Lookups query a live BIN database (HandyAPI) for the richest, most current details, and fall back to a bundled open dataset when you're offline or the API can't be reached. Only the 6-8 digit BIN prefix is ever sent — never your full card number, which the tool never asks for or stores.
